Opalescent UV Stable Potting Compound for LED & Electronics | NP1485

NP1485 is a high-performance opalescent UV stable potting compound designed for demanding electronic potting and encapsulation applications, particularly within the lighting and LED industries. This two-component polyurethane system cures at room temperature to form a tough, opaque-translucent material that combines excellent durability with controlled light diffusion.

Developed as part of our specialist LED resin range, NP1485 is ideal where protection, longevity, and visual appearance are equally important. Once cured, the material allows high transmission of diffuse light while effectively masking underlying electronic components, delivering a clean, professional finish for visible lighting assemblies.

Designed for Durability and Outdoor Performance

NP1485 is formulated to remain stable when exposed to UV light, making it especially suitable for outdoor and architectural lighting applications. The cured compound offers strong resistance to weathering, moisture, and hydrolysis, ensuring long-term performance even in harsh environmental conditions.

With an operating temperature range from -40°C to +120°C (continuous), this opalescent UV stable potting compound performs reliably across a wide range of climates and use cases. Its tough, abrasion-resistant nature provides excellent mechanical protection for sensitive electronics, while maintaining flexibility and structural integrity over time.

Electrical and Thermal Protection

In addition to mechanical strength, NP1485 delivers strong electrical insulation properties. It provides a dielectric strength of 15 kV/mm and a high continuous tracking index of >850 V, making it suitable for electrically demanding applications. The compound also offers a balanced thermal conductivity of 0.25 W/mK, helping to manage heat without compromising encapsulation performance.

A Shore D hardness of approximately 55 after 48 hours ensures a robust yet resilient cured material that protects components from vibration, impact, and abrasion.

Easy Processing and Versatile Supply Options

NP1485 is designed for efficient processing in both small-scale and automated production environments. It has a mixed viscosity of approximately 1000–1200 mPas, allowing it to flow easily around complex assemblies while minimising air entrapment.

The system features a 7-minute pot life (100 g at 23°C) and a gel time of 10–12 minutes, striking an effective balance between workable time and production speed. A full cure is typically achieved within 48 hours at room temperature.

To suit different manufacturing needs, NP1485 is available in multiple supply formats, including twin packs, pre-weighed kits, cartridges (50 ml, 250 ml, and 400 ml), and bulk containers. Cartridge dispensing allows clean, accurate application and can be easily automated for consistent results.

Typical Applications

This opalescent UV stable potting compound is widely used in:

  • LED arrays
  • Luminaires and uplights
  • Lighting tracks and assemblies
  • Decorative and architectural lighting
  • Encapsulation of visible electronic components

Its ability to diffuse light evenly while concealing electronics makes it particularly valuable in applications where both aesthetics and performance matter.

Reliable, Non-Toxic Formulation

NP1485 is non-toxic once cured and designed to meet the practical needs of modern electronics manufacturing. With improved adhesion to a wide range of substrates and proven resistance in weathering tests, it offers a dependable solution for long-term encapsulation projects.

Whether you are designing indoor luminaires or outdoor LED systems, NP1485 provides the durability, appearance, and protection expected from a premium opalescent UV stable potting compound.
